Services app for Odoo
Insurance Management Pro
Agency management for insurance brokers in Odoo: submissions, market approaches, quotes, binding, policy terms, endorsements, renewals and commission, with the policy separated from the term it is covered under.
Overview
Insurance Management Pro.
Insurance Management Pro runs the broker's side of the business inside Odoo. A submission is taken from a client, approached to carriers, quoted, and bound into a policy term through a wizard that creates the term, the placement and the first transaction together. The policy is the contract's durable identity and survives every renewal. The policy term is one period of cover. The transaction is one typed event against that term: new business, endorsement, cancellation, reinstatement or renewal. Commission is table driven from effective dated agreements, never from a typed expression, and the engine explains which rule won and which rules lost. It is an agency management system, not an insurer core platform: it does not issue on a carrier's paper, hold technical reserves or perform actuarial reserving.

What it does
Insurance Management Pro runs the broker's side of the business inside Odoo. A submission is taken from a client, approached to one or more carriers, quoted, and then bound into a policy term through a wizard that creates the term, the placement lines and the opening transaction together.
Three records carry the contract, and keeping them apart is the point. The policy is the contract's durable identity and survives every renewal. The policy term is one period of cover, linked back through the term it renewed. The transaction is one typed event against that term: new business, endorsement, cancellation, reinstatement or renewal. In systems where status and event share a single field, "cancelled" and "cancellation endorsement" cannot be told apart. Here they are different records.
How commission actually resolves
Commission agreements are effective dated per carrier. The rules under them carry a basis, a rate type and a rate, and each can be narrowed by product, line of business or transaction type. When several rules match, the engine keeps every rule whose set dimensions all match and whose date range contains the effective date, scores each by specificity, and takes the highest. Ties break on agreement priority, then rule sequence, then the later start date, then the lower id.
The part that matters in an argument with a carrier is the explain view: it returns the whole ladder, so you can see not only which rate applied but which rules lost and why. No figure comes from a typed expression, because a commission engine driven by administrator written code is a calculation nobody can audit two years later.
Who it's for
Insurance brokers and agencies placing business with carriers, rather than insurers writing it. If you currently track submissions in a spreadsheet, quotes in email, and commission in a second spreadsheet that never quite reconciles to the carrier statement, this replaces that with records that share one chain of evidence.
It is an agency management system and it says so plainly. It does not issue policies on a carrier's paper, hold technical reserves, or perform actuarial reserving, and it claims no regulator, accounting treatment or carrier integration it does not actually implement.
Questions
About Insurance Management Pro.
Can Odoo run an insurance brokerage?
Yes, with this module. It adds the placement spine Odoo does not have: submissions, market approaches, quotes, binding, policy terms and typed transactions, plus broker commission. Odoo's own apps handle the contacts, the accounting and the documents around it.
What is the difference between a policy and a policy term here?
The policy is the contract's durable identity and survives every renewal. The policy term is one period of cover, linked back to the term it renewed. Keeping them apart is what lets you renew without destroying the expiring cover, and what lets cancelled and cancellation endorsement be told apart.
How is commission calculated?
From effective dated agreements per carrier, with rules that can be narrowed by product, line of business or transaction type. Competing rules are scored by specificity and ties break deterministically. No commission figure ever comes from a typed expression, and the engine returns the whole ladder so you can see which rules lost.
Does it need Odoo Enterprise?
No. It depends only on base, mail and product, so it installs on a standard Community database. A dependency test walks the full closure and asserts no Enterprise module is required.
Does it do accounting?
Not on its own, deliberately. Accounting is Odoo's accounting. The free Insurance Management Pro Accounting add-on bridges to the Accounting app for client invoices and commission postings, so a broker who runs the operational side without Odoo Accounting installs only this module.
Is it specific to one country?
No. No regulator, tax rate, statutory wording or levy is compiled in. Market specific material lives in separate localisation add-ons that nothing generic depends on.
