Overview

Insurance Management Pro Claims.

Insurance Management Pro Claims adds claim handling to the broker's book. A loss is notified against the policy term that was in force on the date of loss, not against whichever term happens to be current, so a claim reported late still attaches to the right cover. Reserves, handling status and settlement are tracked as records rather than as a note on the policy. It is a free add-on and is not a standalone product: it requires Insurance Management Pro. Some brokers never touch claims because the carrier handles them, which is exactly why this is optional.

What it does

Insurance Management Pro Claims adds claim handling to the broker's book. A loss is notified against the policy term that was in force on the date of loss. That sounds like a detail until a claim arrives four months late, after the policy has renewed, and the system has to decide which cover it belongs to.

Reserves, handling status and settlement are tracked as records with their own states rather than as a note on the policy, so the position on a claim is a figure you can report on rather than something somebody remembers.

Who it's for

Brokers who handle claims themselves, or who sit between the client and the carrier and need their own record of where each claim stands. If your carriers handle claims end to end and you only ever forward an email, leave this one out: the core module does not need it.

Questions

About Insurance Management Pro Claims.

Why is claims a separate module?

Because plenty of brokers never handle claims, the carrier does. Forcing claim models and menus on them would add a whole area of the product they will never open.

What happens if a claim is reported months after the loss?

It attaches to the policy term that was in force on the date of loss, not to whichever term is current. That is the whole reason the product keeps the policy and the policy term as separate records.

Can clients see their own claims?

Yes, if you also install the portal and the claims in the portal bridge. That bridge installs itself automatically when both are present.

Does it settle money?

It records reserves and settlement against the claim. Any resulting accounting posting is handled by the Accounting add-on through Odoo's own Accounting app.
